Érick Gabriel Gutiérrez Galaviz (born on June 15, 1995), often called Guti, is a Mexican professional footballer. He plays as a midfielder for the Liga MX club Guadalajara. He also plays for the Mexico national team.
Gutiérrez started his football journey at Pachuca when he was young. He played there professionally for five years. During this time, he helped Pachuca win the 2016 Clausura title. He also won the 2016–17 CONCACAF Champions League. In the 2015–2016 season, he became the team's captain at just 20 years old.
In August 2018, Érick moved to PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands. There, he won two KNVB Cups and one Johan Cruyff Shield. He then returned to Mexico in 2023 to play for Guadalajara.
Gutiérrez has also played for various Mexican national youth teams. This includes the U-20 team and the U-23 team. He represented Mexico at the 2016 Summer Olympics. For the senior national team, he played in the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup tournaments. He also helped Mexico win the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Club Career Highlights
Starting at Pachuca
Érick Gutiérrez joined the Liga MX club Pachuca when he was 12 years old. He first played as a right-back. Later, he moved to the midfield position. His first professional game was on October 26, 2013. It was a 0–0 draw against Cruz Azul.
He became a regular starter in the 2014–15 Liga MX season. This was under the coach Diego Alonso. Gutiérrez scored his first goal in Liga MX on February 7, 2015. It was in a 1–1 draw against Toluca. In April 2016, at age 20, he became Pachuca's captain. This was after playing only 70 league matches. He was named one of the best players in the Clausura 2016 tournament. He played 144 league games for Pachuca in total.
Playing for PSV Eindhoven
On August 29, 2018, Gutiérrez moved to the Dutch club PSV Eindhoven. He signed a five-year contract. He joined his Mexican teammate Hirving Lozano there. He wore jersey number 25.
He played his first game for PSV on September 15. It was against ADO. Just five minutes after coming into the game, Gutiérrez helped Lozano score a goal. He also scored a goal himself. PSV won the game 7–0. Three days later, he played in his first UEFA Champions League match. This was against Barcelona.
For the next season, he wore the number 15 jersey. In September, he hurt his hand while training with the national team. He returned to play in a match against PEC Zwolle. He came on as a substitute and scored a goal. PSV won that game 4–0.
During the 2020–21 season, Gutiérrez had two different injuries. He played only a short amount of time in the Eredivisie that season. In the next season, he became a more important player for PSV. He played more games and scored a goal in the KNVB Cup Final against Ajax.
On August 11, 2022, Gutiérrez signed a new contract with PSV until 2025. This happened just one day after he scored a goal. That goal helped PSV win against AS Monaco in a Champions League Qualification game.
Returning to Guadalajara
On July 2, 2023, Érick Gutiérrez moved back to Mexico. He joined the club Guadalajara.
International Career
Youth Team Experience

Gutiérrez was chosen to play for the under-20 team. This was for the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship. He was named captain of the team. Mexico won the tournament. This win allowed them to play in the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand. He was also named one of the best players in the tournament.
He was Mexico's captain at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup. However, the team did not make it past the group stage.
In September 2015, Gutiérrez was chosen for the 2015 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship. He also represented Mexico at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. On August 7, he scored four goals in one game. Mexico won that match 5–1 against Fiji.
Playing for the Senior National Team
In 2015, Gutiérrez was on the first list for the Mexico senior national team for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup. But he did not make the final team.
He made his debut for the senior national team on October 11, 2016. It was a 1–0 friendly win against Panama.
In June 2017, Gutiérrez played in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He played in all the group games. Mexico lost in the semi-final against Jamaica.
In May 2018, Gutiérrez was named in Mexico's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He was not initially in the final 23 players. But he was chosen as a replacement due to an injury to another player.
He was also part of the team for the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He played in one game against Canada. He got a hamstring injury in that match. Mexico went on to win the tournament. In September 2019, he scored his first goal for the national team. It was in a friendly game against the United States. Mexico won that game 3–0.
In October 2022, Gutiérrez was chosen for Mexico's team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He was included in the final 26-player squad in November.

Érick Gutiérrez is a left-footed box-to-box midfielder. This means he plays both offense and defense. He can also play as a deep-lying playmaker or a holding midfielder. He started his career as a defensive midfielder. But his coach at Pachuca, Diego Alonso, moved him to a more attacking role.
