Important Events of 1189
Kings Prepare for Crusades
- On January 21, two powerful kings, Philip II of France and Richard I of England, started gathering their armies. They were getting ready for the Third Crusade. This was a big military journey to the Middle East.
Richard I Becomes King
- On September 3, Richard I of England was crowned as the new king of England. He became known as Richard the Lionheart because he was very brave in battle.
A Special Charter for Bosnia
- On August 29, a ruler named Ban Kulin wrote an important document called "The Charter of Kulin." This charter was like a special "birth certificate" for the country of Bosnia. It showed that Bosnia was becoming its own state.
A New Start for English Law
- The year 1189 was later chosen as the official start of "time immemorial" in English law. This means that anything that happened before this year was considered to be from a time so long ago that no one could remember it. This rule was set in 1276.
