Ancient Egypt's New Beginning
Around 1557 BC, the city of Memphis became the biggest city in the world! It was the capital of Lower Egypt and took over from Avaris, which was the capital of the Hyksos. The Hyksos were a group of foreign rulers in Egypt.
Around 1552 BC, a big change happened in Egypt. This was the end of the Second Intermediate period, a time when Egypt was divided. After this, the amazing New Kingdom began! This was a very powerful and rich time for Egypt, lasting through the 18th, 19th, and 20th Dynasties.
In 1550 BC, a very important leader named Ahmose I became the Pharaoh of Egypt. He helped unite Egypt and started the New Kingdom.
Rise of Mycenae and Athens
During this time, the city of Mycenae in Greece became very powerful. It was located in the northeast part of Greece, known as the Peloponnese. The famous Mycenaean civilization is actually named after this strong city!
In 1556 BC, a legendary figure named Cecrops I rebuilt the city of Athens. This happened after a great flood, which is part of the story of Deucalion in Greek mythology. Cecrops I is known as one of the first Kings of Athens in these ancient myths.
Amazing Discoveries and Structures
Around 1550 BC, some incredible dagger blades were made in Mycenae, Greece. These blades show scenes of a lion hunt and were found in a special burial place called Shaft Grave IV in Grave Circle A. Today, you can see them at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens.
Also around 1550 BC, the famous stone monument of Stonehenge was built in England. It's still a mystery how people built such a massive structure so long ago!
