Major Earthquake in Sicily
On January 11, 1693, the Etna volcano in Sicily erupted. This caused a very strong earthquake that shook parts of Sicily and the island of Malta. It was a big natural disaster for the people living there.
New College in America
On February 8, 1693, a new school called the College of William and Mary got a special permission paper. This paper, called a Royal charter, came from King William III and Queen Mary II of England. The college was in Williamsburg, Virginia, in what is now the United States.
