The 1928 Detroit Stars baseball team was a professional baseball team. They played in the Negro National League. This league was one of the main baseball leagues for African American players. The Stars played during the 1928 baseball season.

Turkey Stearnes: Home Run King
Turkey Stearnes played center field. He was a fantastic hitter. He hit for a .322 batting average. This means he got a hit in almost one-third of his turns at bat. He also had a .640 slugging percentage, showing he hit for a lot of power.
Stearnes led the entire Negro National League with 24 home runs. This was the most he ever hit in one season! He was so good that he was later added to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000. This is a huge honor for baseball players.
