Important Events
In Egypt
- The famous Museum of Alexandria was started by King Ptolemy II. This museum was like a big research center and library. It was a very important place for learning in the ancient world.
In the Roman Republic
- A powerful general named Pyrrhus returned from Sicily. He found himself facing a much larger Roman army. The Roman army was led by a general called Manius Curius Dentatus.
- After a big fight known as the Battle of Beneventum, the Roman leader Gaius Fabricius Luscinus helped make peace with Pyrrhus.
- Pyrrhus then decided to stop fighting in Italy. He went back to his home country, Epirus. This was a big win for the Romans.
In Sicily
- After Pyrrhus left Sicily, the people of Syracuse needed a new leader for their army.
- They chose Hiero II to be the commander of their troops. He would become a very important ruler in Syracuse.
In Greece
- An alliance, which is like a strong friendship, was made even stronger between Antiochus I and Antigonus II.
- This alliance was sealed when Antigonus married Phila. Phila was Antiochus's half-sister.

- Quintus Fabius Maximus Verrucosus was born around this time. He would later become a famous Roman dictator, politician, and soldier. He passed away in 203 BC.
