Ajisen Ramen (Japanese: 味千ラーメン, simplified Chinese: 味千拉面; traditional Chinese: 味千拉麵; pinyin: Wèiqiān Lāmiàn) is a popular chain of fast-food restaurants from Japan. They are famous for their delicious Japanese ramen noodle soup dishes. You can often spot their logo, which features a cute little girl named Chii-chan, on their restaurants and products.
Ajisen Ramen has grown a lot. It now has over 700 restaurants around the world! You can find them in many countries. These include Australia, Canada, China, the United States, and more.
The Story of Ajisen Ramen
- 1968 – The special Tonkotsu ramen was created. This ramen has a pork bone white soup. It was made in Kumamoto, Japan. The founder was Takaharu Shigemitsu.
- 1972 – The company, Shigemitsu Industry Co., Ltd., was officially started. A factory for noodles and soup was built. The company also began allowing others to open Ajisen Ramen restaurants as franchises.
- 1996 – Takaharu Shigemitsu passed away. His son, Katsuaki Shigemitsu, took over the business. In the same year, Daisy Poon opened the first Ajisen Ramen store in Hong Kong.
- 2007 – Ajisen Ramen (China) Ltd. became a public company. Its shares were listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Ajisen Ramen has become very popular in China. Especially in the big city of Shanghai, there are 132 locations. As of August 2011, there were 590 Ajisen restaurants in China. Poon Wai from Hong Kong helped start this big expansion in 1996. She is now the president of Ajisen China Holdings.
