History of Alderwood Manor

Mtlyn
Former Masonic Temple built in 1919 near 36th Ave W and 196th St Sw in Lynnwood.

Alderwood Manor used to be a farming community. It is now part of the cities of Lynnwood, Brier, and Mountlake Terrace. Many people in the old Alderwood Manor community raised chickens.

The community was connected to bigger cities like Everett and Seattle by a special electric train system called an interurban trolley. Most of the old buildings from Alderwood Manor are gone now.

Heritage Park and Old Buildings

In 2004, Lynnwood's Heritage Park opened. This park has some old buildings from the area. One of them is The Wickers Building. This building was Alderwood's main store and post office from 1919 until the 1960s. Another cool exhibit at the park is Car 55, which was one of the interurban trolley cars.

Alderwood Mall

In 1979, the Alderwood Mall was built. It became the biggest shopping center and a popular place for visitors in Lynnwood.

Remaining Historical Sites

Only one original Alderwood Manor building is still standing in its first location. This is the old Masonic Temple. The Manor Hardware building was once a schoolhouse in the early 1900s. It was empty for many years and was taken down in 2015. Both of these spots are near 196th St SW in Lynnwood. Some private homes from the early days are also still in the area.
