Ali Adnan Kadhim Nasser Al-Tameemi (Arabic: عَلِيّ عَدْنَان كَاظِم نَاصِر التَّمِيمِيّ; born on December 19, 1993) is a professional footballer from Iraq. He plays as a left-back for the Saudi First Division League club Al-Najma. He also plays for the Iraq national team.

Ali Adnan was a star player for Iraq at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup. His team, which was not expected to do well, reached the semi-finals. In 2013, he won the award for Asian Young Footballer of the Year.

Ali Adnan's Football Journey

Starting Out: Early Years

Ali Adnan started his football training at the famous Ammo Baba Football School. He spent five years there, learning and improving his skills. Even though he was one of the youngest, he quickly moved up through the different age groups.

He believes his time at this school was very important for his career. After the school, he joined Al-Zawraa, one of Iraq's top clubs. He played for their youth teams. Later, he moved to Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya and then to Baghdad FC.

Playing for Baghdad FC

At Baghdad FC, Ali Adnan first played for the youth team. He was invited to join the senior team when he was still quite young. In 2010, coach Karim Kurdi made him a regular player for the senior team.

Ali Adnan became very confident in his skills. He even took the spot of his hero, Iraqi international Bassim Abbas, on the left side of the field. He scored seven goals for Baghdad FC during his time there.

Moving to Turkey: Çaykur Rizespor

On August 1, 2013, Ali Adnan signed a five-year contract with Çaykur Rizespor in Turkey. He chose the number 53 jersey because the club was founded in 1953. He felt very at home with the team.

He scored his first goal in the Turkish Süper Lig on September 1, 2013, with a powerful shot from far away. He scored another goal from a free kick. Ali Adnan became a favorite among the fans. He helped his team with 4 goals and 10 assists.

Playing in Italy: Udinese

On July 1, 2015, Ali Adnan joined Udinese in Italy with a five-year contract. This was a big moment because he became the first Iraqi player ever to play in the Serie A, Italy's top football league.

He played his first game for Udinese in a cup match. His first Serie A game was a win against Juventus, a very strong team. He scored his first goal for Udinese from a free kick. Fans loved him at Udinese. However, his playing time became limited after a new manager arrived.

Loan to Atalanta

On August 17, 2018, Ali Adnan went on loan to Atalanta. After some disagreements with the manager, he had to look for a new team outside Europe to continue playing.

Joining Vancouver Whitecaps FC

On March 9, 2019, Ali Adnan joined Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Major League Soccer (MLS) in North America. He first joined on a loan, and then the team made his transfer permanent in July 2019. In July 2021, he and the Whitecaps agreed to end his contract early due to visa issues.

Time in Denmark and Russia

On November 5, 2021, Ali Adnan signed with Vejle Boldklub in Denmark. Sadly, less than a month later, he suffered a serious knee injury. He tore a ligament, which meant he could not play for the rest of the season. His contract with Vejle ended in May 2022.

On August 11, 2022, he joined Rubin Kazan in Russia. He played for them until his contract ended in June 2023.

Current Club: Al-Najma

On July 19, 2024, Ali Adnan joined Al-Najma, a club in the Saudi First Division League.

Playing for Iraq: International Career

Iraq Under-20 Team

Ali Adnan was amazing at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey. His fantastic performances helped the Iraq U-20 reach the semi-finals. He scored a memorable goal against England U-20, tying the game at 2-2. He also scored in the semi-finals against Uruguay U-20. Many top European clubs showed interest in him after this tournament.

Iraq Under-23 Team

Ali Adnan was part of the Iraqi Olympic team for the Rio Olympics 2016. He played a very important role in their games. He was even named "man of the match" against Denmark. Although Iraq did not advance past the group stage, Ali Adnan played well.

After the Olympics, Ali Adnan briefly decided to stop playing for the national team. This surprised many people in Iraq. However, after talking with his father, he changed his mind and returned to play for Iraq.

Iraq Senior National Team

Ali Adnan made his debut for the senior national team on December 3, 2012, when he was just 18 years old. He played against Bahrain. He was the first player from the Ammo Baba football school to play for the senior team.

His strong performances quickly made him known as the best left-back in Iraq. He scored his first goal for the Iraq national team in a 3-1 win against China PR in 2014.

Ali Adnan is known for being a strong and fast left-back. He is often compared to famous players like Roberto Carlos because of his powerful and accurate shots from free kicks. He is tall but also very quick, which helps him in counter-attacks.

He loves to attack, running down the left side of the field with amazing footwork. He can get past defenders and midfielders easily. He is full of energy and strength, making it hard for opponents to stop him. Even though he is great at attacking, he is also a strong defender for his team. He is also good at making long passes and crosses into the penalty area.

Ali Adnan's Family and Life

Ali Adnan was born in Baghdad, Iraq, on December 19, 1993. Football is a big part of his family. Both his father and uncle were top-level football players in the 1970s and 80s.

His father, Adnan Kadhim, played for the Iraqi youth team in 1977. He won a championship and played in a World Youth Championship. His uncle, Ali Kadhim, was one of the best strikers for the national team, scoring 35 goals.

Ali Adnan looks up to his father as his role model and teacher. His father has always supported him throughout his career. When Ali Adnan briefly stopped playing for the national team in 2016, his father called him on live TV and convinced him to return.
