Rubin Andre Carter (born May 12, 1979) is a former American football player and now a coach. He played in the National Football League (NFL) as a defensive end. Andre Carter was known for his strong defensive plays.

He played college football for the California Golden Bears. Later, he was picked by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2001 NFL Draft. He also played for the Washington Redskins, New England Patriots, and Oakland Raiders. Today, Carter works as a coach, helping players with their pass rush skills for the Las Vegas Raiders.

Andre Carter's Early Life

Andre Carter was born in Denver, Colorado. He went to Oak Grove High School in San Jose, California. When he was a senior, he was named an All-America high school player. He was also chosen as the best defensive lineman by Parade magazine.

College Football Career

Carter played college football at the University of California, Berkeley. He was part of the California Golden Bears team from 1997 to 2000. In his junior and senior years, he was a top player in the Pac-10 conference.

In 2000, he won the Morris Trophy. This award goes to the best defensive lineman in the Pac-10. He was also named a unanimous All-American, which means all major selectors agreed he was one of the best. The Golden Bears team also named him their most valuable player.

Playing for the San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers chose Andre Carter in the first round of the 2001 NFL draft. He played for them from 2001 to 2005. During his time with the 49ers, he made 154 solo tackles and 32 sacks. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the opposing team's quarterback behind the line of scrimmage.

In 2006, Carter joined the Washington Redskins. He signed a six-year contract with them. The Redskins moved him back to his main position, defensive end. In his first year, he had 56 tackles and 6 sacks.

He played even better in 2007, getting 10.5 sacks and forcing four fumbles. A forced fumble is when a defensive player hits the ball carrier and makes them drop the ball. His best season with the Redskins was in 2009, when he had 11 sacks.

Joining the New England Patriots

Andre Carter announced he would play for the New England Patriots in 2011. He signed a one-year deal with them. On November 13, 2011, Carter had an amazing game against the New York Jets. He recorded 4 sacks, which tied the Patriots' record for most sacks in a single game.

Later that season, in December 2011, Carter got a serious leg injury. He tore a tendon in his left quadriceps. This injury made him miss the rest of the season and the playoffs. Even though he was injured, he was still chosen for the 2012 Pro Bowl. This shows how well he played that year.

Playing for the Oakland Raiders

Coaching Career

In 2021, Carter coached the defensive line at Louisiana State University. Since February 2024, he has been a pass rush specialist for the Las Vegas Raiders. He helps players improve their skills in rushing the quarterback.

Andre Carter's Personal Life

Andre Carter is the son of Rubin Carter, who also played defensive tackle for the Denver Broncos. Andre is married to Bethany and has two children: a stepdaughter named Aysha and a son named Quincy. His middle name, Andre, was given to him by his father, who named him after his friend and teammate Andre Townsend.
