Anna Maria Chlumsky (pronounced KLUM-skee; born December 3, 1980) is an American actress. She started acting when she was a child. She became famous for playing Vada Sultenfuss in the movie My Girl (1991) and its sequel, My Girl 2. After these early roles, she took a break from acting from 1999 to 2005 to go to college.
Anna Chlumsky later returned to acting. She appeared in independent films like Blood Car (2007) and In the Loop (2009). She also played Amy Brookheimer in the HBO TV show Veep (2012–2019). For her role in Veep, she was nominated six times for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Early Life and Family
Anna Chlumsky was born in Chicago. Her mother, Nancy, was a singer, actress, and flight attendant. Her father, Frank Chlumsky Jr., was a chef and played the saxophone. Anna grew up in a Catholic family. Her family background includes Czech and Croatian heritage.
Anna Chlumsky's Acting Career
Anna Chlumsky began her career in show business at a young age. She modeled with her mother in an advertisement. Her main roles in My Girl (1991) and My Girl 2 (1994) made her well-known. People praised her acting in these movies.
Her very first movie role was a small part in the comedy Uncle Buck (1989). In this movie, she acted alongside John Candy and her future My Girl co-star, Macaulay Culkin. She also appeared in Trading Mom (1994) with Sissy Spacek. Later, she starred in Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain (1995) with Christina Ricci. Throughout the 1990s, Anna Chlumsky acted in several movies and TV shows.
Taking a Break and Returning to Acting
Chlumsky took a break from acting to attend the University of Chicago. She graduated in 2002 with a degree in International Studies. After college, she worked as a fact-checker for the Zagat Survey in New York City. She also worked as an editorial assistant for a book publisher.
However, she felt that her work in publishing was not exciting enough. So, she decided to return to acting. She completed special training at the Atlantic Acting School in Manhattan.
Later TV and Film Roles
After her training, Chlumsky appeared in many TV shows. She was in episodes of Law & Order in 2007 and 2010. She also appeared in the 30 Rock episode "The Fighting Irish". In 2009, she was in four episodes of the TV show Cupid. That same year, she starred in the TV movie 12 Men of Christmas.
In 2009, she acted in the political comedy movie In The Loop. She played Liza, an assistant at the State Department. From 2012 to 2019, Chlumsky had a main role in the HBO series Veep. She played Amy Brookheimer, an aide to the main character.
Anna Chlumsky has also appeared in other TV series. These include White Collar, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Hannibal. In 2017, she was in the fourth season of Halt and Catch Fire.
More recently, Chlumsky had a main role in the Netflix drama series Inventing Anna. She also provides the voice for Charlotte Pickles in the 2021 animated show Rugrats.
Personal Life
In October 2007, Anna Chlumsky announced her engagement to Shaun So. Shaun So is a member of the United States Army Reserve and served in Afghanistan. They first met in 2000 when they were students at the University of Chicago.
They got married on March 8, 2008, in Brooklyn. Anna and Shaun have two daughters. Their first daughter was born in July 2013, and their second daughter was born in August 2016.
