Anna Maria Chlumsky (born December 3, 1980) is an American actress. She started acting when she was a child. She became famous for playing Vada Sultenfuss in the movie My Girl (1991) and its follow-up, My Girl 2. After these early roles, she took a break from acting between 1999 and 2005 to go to college.
Anna Chlumsky returned to acting in independent films. These included Blood Car (2007) and In the Loop (2009). She also played Amy Brookheimer in the HBO TV show Veep (2012–2019). For this role, she was nominated six times for a big award called the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Early Life and Family Background
Anna Chlumsky was born in Chicago. Her mother, Nancy, was a singer, actress, and flight attendant. Her father, Frank Chlumsky Jr., was a chef and played the saxophone. Anna grew up in a Catholic family. Her family background includes Czech and Croatian heritage.
Anna's Acting Journey
Starting as a Child Actress
Anna Chlumsky began her career in entertainment at a young age. She modeled with her mother in advertisements. However, it was her main roles in My Girl (1991) and My Girl 2 (1994) that made her well-known. People praised her acting in these movies.
Her very first movie part was a small role in the family comedy Uncle Buck (1989). In this film, she acted alongside John Candy and Macaulay Culkin. Macaulay Culkin later became her co-star in My Girl. She also appeared in Trading Mom (1994) with Sissy Spacek. In 1995, she was in Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain with Christina Ricci. Throughout the 1990s, Anna starred in several movies and TV shows.
Taking a Break for College
Anna Chlumsky decided to take a break from acting to go to college. She attended the University of Chicago. In 2002, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies. After college, she worked as a fact-checker for a company called Zagat Survey. She then moved to New York City. Later, she worked as an assistant editor for a science fiction and fantasy book publisher.
However, Anna felt that her work in publishing was not exciting or fulfilling. So, she decided to return to acting. She got special training at the Atlantic Acting School in Manhattan.
Returning to the Screen
After her training, Anna Chlumsky started acting again. She appeared in an episode of Law & Order in 2007 and again in 2010. She was also in an episode of 30 Rock called "The Fighting Irish". In this episode, she played Liz Lemler, a character who was a romantic rival.
In 2009, Anna was in four episodes of the ABC show Cupid. Later that year, she starred as Jan Lucas in the Lifetime TV movie 12 Men of Christmas.
Stage and TV Roles
Anna Chlumsky also performed in plays. In 2008, she was in an Off Broadway play called Unconditional. She also starred in a play called Balm in Gilead in 2005.
In 2009, she appeared in a political comedy movie called In The Loop. This movie was connected to a BBC TV series. Anna played Liza, an assistant for the State Department in the film.
From 2012 to 2019, Anna Chlumsky had a main role in the HBO show Veep. She played Amy Brookheimer, an aide to the main character. This show was also produced by the same person who made In The Loop.

Anna's Personal Life
In October 2007, Anna Chlumsky announced she was engaged to Shaun So. Shaun is a member of the United States Army Reserve. He served in Afghanistan. They first met in 2000 when they were students at the University of Chicago.
Anna and Shaun got married on March 8, 2008, in Brooklyn. They have two daughters. Their first daughter was born in July 2013, and their second daughter was born in August 2016.
