Main Characters
Here are the most important characters you'll see in Rugrats:
- Tommy Pickles (voiced by E. G. Daily) is the main character and the older son of Stu and Didi Pickles. He's a brave 1-year-old who loves adventure and always tries to do what's right. Tommy often carries a small screwdriver in his diaper, ready for anything! His best friends are Chuckie and his dog, Spike. Tommy is the youngest of the babies until his brother, Dil, is born.
- Chuckie Finster (voiced by Christine Cavanaugh and Nancy Cartwright) is Tommy's best friend. He's 2 years old, making him the oldest of the babies. Unlike Tommy, Chuckie is often scared and clumsy. He usually lists all the reasons why the babies shouldn't go on an adventure! Later, Chuckie gets a Japanese stepmother named Kira and a stepsister named Kimi, who he loves very much.
- Angelica Pickles (voiced by Cheryl Chase) is Tommy and Dil's 3-year-old cousin. She's often seen as the "villain" of the group because she likes to boss the babies around and trick them. Angelica loves her toys and is very self-centered. Even though she causes trouble, she sometimes stands up for the babies and secretly wants to be their friend.
- Phil and Lil DeVille (both voiced by Kath Soucie) are twins who live next door to Tommy. Lil is older than Phil by just two minutes! They look very much alike and share a love for playing in the dirt and even eating bugs! They often argue but are always together. They are the same age as Tommy.
- Susie Carmichael (voiced by Cree Summer) is Tommy's neighbor and a kind, smart girl. Her family moves onto Tommy's street, and she quickly becomes good friends with the babies. Susie is usually the voice of reason and is much nicer to the babies than Angelica. She is very good at many things and has a warm personality.
- Dil Pickles (voiced by Tara Strong) is Tommy's younger brother. He was born in The Rugrats Movie. Dil is the youngest of the babies and often just drools, cries, or babbles. Because he's so little, the other babies can't always understand him. He grows up more in the sequel series, All Grown Up!.
- Kimi Watanabe-Finster (voiced by Dionne Quan and Charlet Chung) is Chuckie's stepsister. Her mother, Kira, marries Chuckie's father, Chas. Kimi is a bold and adventurous girl who gets along well with Tommy and the other babies. She is very protective of Chuckie and encourages him to be brave. Kimi is Japanese-American.
- Spike (voiced by Frank Welker) is the Pickles family dog. He's Tommy's best "animal" friend and appears in almost every episode. Spike is very protective of the babies and sees them as part of his family. He's a loyal and brave dog, especially when the babies are in danger.
Adult Characters
The grown-ups in Rugrats are often busy with their own lives, but they always look after the babies!
- Stu Pickles (voiced by Jack Riley and Tommy Dewey) is Tommy and Dil's dad. He's a toy inventor who sometimes acts like a big kid himself! Stu is married to Didi and is best friends with Chas Finster. In the Rugrats movies, Stu's inventions often kick off the adventure and sometimes even help save the day!
- Didi Pickles (voiced by Melanie Chartoff and Ashley Rae Spillers) is Tommy and Dil's mom. She's a part-time teacher and is married to Stu. Didi takes advice from child psychologists very seriously. She comes from a Russian-Jewish family. In the newer series, Didi is a professional blogger and artist.
- Grandpa Lou Pickles (voiced by David Doyle, Joe Alaskey, and Michael McKean) is Tommy, Dil, and Angelica's grandpa. He often babysits the children, though he sometimes falls asleep! Grandpa Lou loves to tell stories about his younger days. In the reboot series, he's shown as a hippie who enjoys yoga and tie-dye shirts.
- Drew Pickles (voiced by Michael Bell and Timothy Simons) is Angelica's dad and Stu's older brother. He's a busy investment banker. Drew and Stu often bicker like kids, but they care about each other. Drew often calls Angelica his "Princess" and is usually the one to give her punishments when she misbehaves.
- Charlotte Pickles (voiced by Tress MacNeille and Anna Chlumsky) is Angelica's mom and Drew's wife. She's a very busy CEO of her own company. Charlotte tries to be a good mom, but her work often distracts her. She's often seen talking on her phone to her co-worker, Jonathan.
- Betty DeVille (voiced by Kath Soucie and Natalie Morales) is Phil and Lil's mom and Didi's best friend. She's very athletic and strong. Betty helps run the Java Lava Coffee House. In the reboot series, she owns her own coffee shop called Betty's Beans.
- Howard DeVille (voiced by Phil Proctor) is Phil and Lil's dad. He's a mild-mannered stay-at-home father who is often a bit overwhelmed by his energetic wife, Betty.
- Chas Finster (voiced by Michael Bell and Tony Hale) is Chuckie's dad. He's best friends with Stu. Chas is a kind and sensitive person. He marries Kira in the second Rugrats movie and becomes Kimi's stepfather. He also helps run the Java Lava Coffee House.
- Kira Watanabe-Finster (voiced by Julia Kato and Hiromi Dames) is Kimi's Japanese mother and Chuckie's stepmother. She marries Chas in Rugrats in Paris: The Movie. Kira is often the most sensible of the adults and enjoys trying new things.
- Dr. Lucy Carmichael (voiced by Cheryl Carter and Nicole Byer) is Susie's mom. She's a very smart doctor who delivered Dil.
- Randy Carmichael (voiced by Ron Glass and Omar Benson Miller) is Susie's dad. In the original series, he was a screenwriter for a cartoon show. In the reboot, he's a high school science teacher who enjoys playing video games with Stu, Drew, and Chas.
- Lulu Jonston-Pickles (voiced by Debbie Reynolds) is a nurse who marries Grandpa Lou in Rugrats in Paris. She becomes Tommy, Dil, and Angelica's step-grandmother.
- Sarah "Taffy" Maynston (voiced by Amanda Bynes) is Lulu's grandniece. She was hired as a regular babysitter for the babies and is the lead singer of a band. She always calls the babies "Minis."

Angelica loves her dearly, but Fluffy often causes trouble for the other characters, especially Spike. She looks a lot like Angelica!
- Television Characters:
* Cynthia (voiced by Tori Kelly) is Angelica Pickles' favorite doll. She's based on the famous Barbie doll. * Reptar (voiced by Busta Rhymes and Fred Tatasciore) is a giant green dinosaur that Tommy and the other Rugrats absolutely love! He's like a friendly version of Godzilla. Reptar has his own products, theme park, and even an ice show! * Robosnail is Reptar's enemy. He's a mechanical snail with snapping claws. He appeared in Rugrats in Paris: The Movie, where he fought Reptar in Paris. * Thorg (voiced by Phil Proctor) is a giant gorilla and another enemy of Reptar. He's made to look like King Kong. * The Dummi Bears are a cartoon watched by the babies, though they don't always find it interesting. Susie's dad, Randy Carmichael, used to write for this show.

From The Rugrats Movie
- Scar Snout is a huge, scary wolf-like creature with fiery red eyes. He's the main bad guy in The Rugrats Movie. He's a very dangerous predator in the forest. In the end, Spike, the Pickles' dog, defeats him to protect the babies.
- Rex Pester (voiced by Tim Curry) is a news reporter who bothers the adults as they try to find the babies. He often mispronounces the babies' names and makes mistakes.
From Rugrats in Paris: The Movie
- Coco LaBouche (voiced by Susan Sarandon) is the main villain of this movie. She runs an amusement park called EuroReptar in Paris. She tries to marry Chuckie's dad, Chas, just to get a promotion at her job, even though she doesn't like children. Angelica and the babies stop her wedding and expose her plan!
- Jean-Claude (voiced by John Lithgow) is Coco's assistant. He helps her with her plans, including trying to kidnap the babies. He's more sensible than Coco but is still loyal to her.
From Rugrats Go Wild
This movie features characters from another Nickelodeon show, The Wild Thornberrys, as the Rugrats get stranded on an island!
