Ardingly (/ˈɑːrdɪŋl/ AR-ding-lye) is a village in West Sussex, England. It is located in the Mid Sussex District and is known as a civil parish. The village is part of the beautiful High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Ardingly is about 53 kilometers (33 miles) south of London. It is also about 53 kilometers (33 miles) east-north-east of Chichester, which is the main town of the county. The parish covers an area of about 16 square kilometers (3,974 acres). In 2011, about 1,936 people lived in Ardingly. This was a small increase from 1,833 people in 2001.

History and Nature Around Ardingly

Ardingly has a long history. A place called Ertlyngeleghe was mentioned in records from 1396. This might have been an early name for Ardingly.

Old Buildings and Gardens

The St Peter's parish church is a very old building. It is located at the western end of the village and was built in the 14th century.

Just a short distance north of Ardingly is Wakehurst. This amazing place is part of the Kew Gardens. It is like a huge wild garden where you can see many different plants.

Lakes and Rocks

About 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) west of the village is Ardingly Reservoir. This is a large lake that is a great spot for nature and water activities.

If you like exploring, you can find a cool rock formation called Big-Upon-Little. It is near a walking path between Ardingly and West Hoathly.

South of England Show
