Ardleigh is a village in Essex, England. It is a type of local area called a civil parish. Ardleigh is about 4 miles (6.4 km) northeast of Colchester. It is also about 26 miles (42 km) northeast of Chelmsford, which is the main town of Essex.

History of Ardleigh
Ardleigh is mentioned in the Domesday Book from 1086. This was a very old survey of land in England. The book says that a person named Geoffrey de Mandeville owned Ardleigh at that time.
After the First World War, many small farms were started in the Ardleigh area. These were called smallholdings. They were set up by a group called the Land Settlement Association. This group helped soldiers get land to farm after the war.
Even though a main railway line, the Great Eastern Main Line, goes near the village, Ardleigh used to have its own train station. However, the station closed in November 1967.

The closest train station to Ardleigh is Manningtree. This station is about 3 miles (4.8 km) northeast of the village.
Ardleigh is located on the A137 road. This road connects Colchester to Ipswich, which is a town in Suffolk.
Less than 1 mile (1.6 km) southwest of Ardleigh is the Ardleigh Reservoir. A reservoir is a large lake where water is stored for people to use.

Ardleigh is part of an area called Ardleigh and Little Bromley for local elections. This area also includes a place known as Crockleford Heath. In 2011, about 2,311 people lived in this area. This was more than the 2,081 people who lived there in 2001.
