Story of Artemis Fowl
The movie begins in Ireland at Fowl Manor. This is the home of a rich businessman named Artemis Fowl I. A special police force arrests a dwarf named Mulch Diggums there. Mulch says that Artemis Fowl I has stolen a very powerful magical item called the "Aculos." Mulch claims that magic is real and offers to tell his story.
Artemis Fowl Jr.'s Quest
Three days earlier, we meet Artemis Fowl Jr., a 12-year-old genius. He lives at Fowl Manor with his father, Artemis Sr. Suddenly, his father disappears from his boat. Artemis Jr. then gets a call from a mysterious hooded figure. This figure is holding his father captive. They demand that Artemis Jr. find the Aculos within three days. His father had hidden it.
Artemis's bodyguard, Domovoi "Dom" Butler, shows him a secret library. For generations, the Fowl family has collected proof of magical creatures.
Fairies and the Aculos
Deep underground is Haven City, a secret city for fairies. Here, Mulch Diggums, a giant dwarf thief, is taken to prison. Meanwhile, Commander List of Artemis Fowl characters#Julius Root sends the LEPrecon force to find the Aculos. This item is the fairies' most important resource.
Foaly, a centaur and the LEPrecon's tech expert, finds that someone has reached the surface without permission. Officer Holly Short is sent to investigate. Her own father, Beechwood Short, was accused of stealing the Aculos and died. Holly wants to clear his name.
The Troll Attack and Capture
Holly goes to Martina Franca, Italy. There, a wild troll attacks a human wedding. Holly uses a "time freeze" to stop time. The LEPrecon team then captures the troll. They also wipe the humans' memories so they won't remember the magic.
Back at Fowl Manor, Dom's 12-year-old niece, Juliet, arrives. Artemis reads his father's journal. He learns that Beechwood Short gave the Aculos to Artemis Sr. This was to keep it safe from the hooded figure, who is actually Opal Koboi. She is a powerful fairy who wants to destroy humankind.
Artemis sends Dom to watch the Hill of Tara. Holly disobeys orders and flies there. She finds her father's ID tag but is captured by Dom. She is then held prisoner inside Fowl Manor.
Battle at Fowl Manor
Commander Root and an army of LEPrecon officers try to stop time around Fowl Manor. But Artemis and Dom fight them off using Holly's fairy equipment. Artemis demands the Aculos in exchange for Holly. He also uses fairy rules to stop fairies from entering his home while he is alive.
Root brings Mulch Diggums from prison. He offers Mulch a shorter sentence if he can get inside Fowl Manor. Mulch tunnels in and finds the Aculos in Artemis Sr.'s safe. Artemis frees Holly and asks for her help.
Lieutenant Briar Cudgeon, who secretly works for Koboi, takes control of LEPrecon. He releases the captured troll into the manor. This also stops all magic inside.
Saving the Day
Mulch swallows the Aculos. Artemis, Holly, Juliet, and Dom try to escape the troll. Dom gets badly hurt while pushing Artemis out of the troll's way. Holly's fellow officers help her unblock her magic. She then uses her powers to heal Dom.
Mulch and the LEPrecon army escape as the time freeze ends. Artemis still has the Aculos. He refuses to give it to Koboi. Holly agrees to help him rescue his father. As Koboi tries to kill Artemis Sr., Holly uses the Aculos to bring him to Fowl Manor.
Artemis Sr. tells Holly that her father died protecting the Aculos. He gives her a list of Koboi's secret helpers. Holly returns the Aculos to Haven City. Commander Root is back in charge and tells her to investigate everyone on the list. Artemis calls Koboi, promising to come after her.
Mulch's interrogator offers him freedom if he helps catch Artemis Sr. But Mulch reveals that Artemis planned his own arrest. This was to prove magic exists to the authorities. Mulch confirms magic on camera. As the interrogator calls for help, the Fowls' helicopter rescues Mulch. Holly joins them, and they fly off together.
