Nonso Anozie was born in North London on November 17, 1978. His parents were from Nigeria. He went to St Aloysius College, Highgate for school.
After high school, he studied acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama. He finished his studies in 2002. That same year, he played the main character in William Shakespeare's play King Lear. In 2004, he won the Ian Charleson Award for his amazing performance in another play called Othello.

In 2006, Nonso was chosen to be the voice of Iorek Byrnison, an armored bear, in the movie The Golden Compass. He praised Nonso, calling him "one of the most promising and soulful young actors" he had met.
