Asheldham is a small village and civil parish in Essex, England. A civil parish is a local area that has its own council, helping to manage local services. Asheldham is located about 14 kilometers (9 miles) southeast of Maldon. It is also about 26 kilometers (16 miles) east-southeast from Chelmsford, the main town of Essex.
The village is part of the Maldon district. It is also within the Maldon & East Chelmsford area for national government elections. Asheldham works together with the nearby village of Dengie. They share a local group called the Asheldham and Dengie Parish Council.

Discover Asheldham
Asheldham is found on the Dengie peninsula. This is a unique piece of land that stretches out into the North Sea. The village is about 19 kilometers (12 miles) by road from Maldon.
Village Population
In 2001, about 150 people lived in Asheldham. By the 2011 Census, the population had changed slightly. It was recorded as 142 people.
St. Lawrence's Church
The village has a historic church dedicated to St Lawrence. This church was built a long time ago, around the 1300s. It has a chancel, a nave, and a tower.
In May 1973, the church was no longer used for regular services. It became what is called a redundant church. However, it found a new purpose! Today, it is used as a youth church and a place for young people to stay. It serves the Chelmsford Diocese. The church is also a Grade II listed building. This means it is an important historical building that needs to be protected.
A Ship Named Asheldham
Did you know a ship was named after this village? A special kind of ship called a Ham class minesweeper was launched in September 1953. It was named HMS Asheldham. A minesweeper is a ship designed to find and remove dangerous underwater mines.

Archaeologists have done some exciting digs in Asheldham. They have found clues about people who lived here long ago. These discoveries include:
