Autigny is a small town, also called a municipality, located in Switzerland. It's part of the Sarine district in the Fribourg canton.

History of Autigny

Autigny has a long history! It was first mentioned way back in the year 1068. Back then, it was called Altignei. It also used to have a German name, Ottenach, but that name isn't used anymore.

Geography of Autigny

Autigny covers an area of about 6.2 square kilometers (about 2.4 square miles). A large part of this land, about 70%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 21.7% of the area.

About 6.9% of Autigny is covered by buildings and roads. A small amount, less than 1%, is made up of rivers or lakes. The town is located in the Sarine district, near the Glane and Neirigue rivers.

Autigny's Coat of Arms

Every town has a special symbol called a coat of arms. Autigny's coat of arms shows a golden spear on a red stripe. This stripe goes diagonally across a silver background. On either side of the red stripe, there are two red crosses with rounded ends.

  • Next, students can choose to go to an optional three or four-year upper Secondary school. This can be a gymnasium (which prepares them for university) or a vocational program (which teaches job skills).
  • After upper Secondary, students can go to a Tertiary school or continue with an apprenticeship to learn a trade.
