History of Badghis Province
Badghis has an interesting history. It was one of the last areas taken by the Taliban group. This happened before 2001. But the local Tajik people did not support them. Soon after, forces from the Northern Alliance took the province back.
Geography of Badghis
Badghis Province is located in the hilly, quiet northwestern part of Afghanistan. It shares its borders with several other provinces. These include Herat, Ghor, and Faryab. It also borders the country of Turkmenistan.
Government and Politics
The leader of Badghis Province is called the Governor. The current Governor is Delbar Jan Arman.
Economy and Farming
Agriculture is the main way people in Badghis make money. The Murghab and Hari rivers help make the land good for growing crops. The province faced a serious dry period in the late 1990s. This drought continued into the early 2000s. Luckily, conditions have improved since then.
Badghis is famous for its pistachio nuts. It produces more pistachios than any other part of Afghanistan. The province is also well-known for making beautiful carpets.
Getting Around: Transportation
Badghis Province does not have many ways to get around. There is only one airport in the province. It is called Qala i Naw Airport (QAQN).
