Barbie of Swan Lake is a computer-animated movie from 2003. It was made in both America and Canada. This film is the third computer-animated movie in the popular Barbie film series. It's also the second Barbie movie inspired by a famous ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, following Barbie in the Nutcracker. In this movie, Kelly Sheridan voices both Barbie and the main character, Odette. The story is a magical version of the classic ballet Swan Lake.

Story of Barbie of Swan Lake

The movie begins with Barbie telling a story to her younger sister, Kelly. Kelly is feeling a bit nervous about her first time at an overnight camp. Barbie tells her a tale about courage and finding strength within yourself.

Odette's Adventure Begins

The story is about Odette, a shy young woman who lives in a small village. She works in her family's bakery and loves to dance, but she's too timid to show her talent. Meanwhile, Prince Daniel's mother tells him it's time to get married. She plans a big ball for him to choose a wife.

One day, some men from the village try to catch a unicorn named Lila. Odette helps Lila escape. Curious, Odette follows Lila into an Enchanted Forest. Lila gets stuck in a bush. Odette finds a glowing crystal in a rock and easily pulls it out to free Lila. The forest creatures watch in amazement.

The Fairy Queen and Rothbart's Curse

The Fairy Queen appears and tells Odette that by freeing the magic crystal, Odette is now destined to defeat the evil sorcerer Rothbart. The Queen explains that Rothbart is her cousin. He became angry when she was chosen to rule the forest. Years later, Rothbart returned with dark magic and his daughter, Odile. He has taken over most of the forest, turning its inhabitants into animals.

Odette is scared and doesn't want to get involved. As Lila escorts her out of the forest, Rothbart confronts Odette. He casts a spell on her, turning her into a swan. The Fairy Queen arrives too late to fully reverse the spell. She gives Odette a special tiara with the crystal. This tiara protects Odette from Rothbart's magic. The Queen's magic is only strong enough to let Odette be human by night and a swan by day.

Finding a Way to Break the Spell

Odette and Lila meet Erasmus, a friendly troll who looks after a huge library. They hope to find the "Book of Forest Lore" there. This book might tell them how to break Rothbart's curse. However, they can't find it.

Prince Daniel, who is out hunting, is tricked by Rothbart into the forest. Rothbart wants Daniel to hunt and kill Odette. But just as Daniel is about to shoot, he is amazed by the swan's beauty and decides to let her live. Odette then transforms into her human form in front of him. She protects him from Rothbart. The two spend the night together and fall in love. Daniel invites Odette to the ball the next evening, and she agrees.

The Power of True Love

Erasmus finally finds the "Book of Forest Lore." It reveals that true love is the only way to defeat Rothbart. But there's a catch: if Daniel falls in love with another girl, the magic crystal will lose its power, and Odette will die.

As everyone helps Odette get ready for the ball, Rothbart kidnaps Erasmus and the book. While Odette rescues Erasmus, Rothbart goes to the ball with Odile. He uses magic to make Odile look exactly like Odette. Odette flies to the castle as a swan to warn Daniel, but she's too late. Daniel promises his love to Odile, which causes Odette to collapse.

The Final Battle

With the crystal's power gone, Rothbart takes it from Odette. The Fairy Queen arrives and takes the unconscious Odette into her carriage. Rothbart chases them. The carriage crashes back in the Enchanted Forest. The Fairy Queen challenges Rothbart to a duel, but he overpowers her and turns her into a mouse.

Odette wakes up just as Daniel arrives to confront Rothbart. Odette and Daniel reunite, but Rothbart's spell hits them both, making them unconscious. Their hands are intertwined. Rothbart thinks he has won. But at that moment, he is consumed by the crystal's magic. This happens because Daniel and Odette tried to protect each other out of true love.

The two awaken, and all of Rothbart's evil magic is undone. Everyone from the village and the Enchanted Forest celebrates. Odette and Daniel are going to get married. Rothbart is turned into a cuckoo clock as punishment. Odile ends up working as a maid in Erasmus's library.

The story of courage gives Kelly new strength. She promises Barbie that she will participate in the race the next day. Barbie smiles, proud of her sister.
