Bill Page's Early Life

Bill Page served in the United States Army during World War II in Europe. After the war, he went to Wright Junior College. This school is now called Wilbur Wright College.

Starting His Music Career

Before joining the famous Lawrence Welk Show, Bill Page played music with other bands. He performed with musicians like Del Courtney and Boyd Raeburn. He joined the Lawrence Welk Show in 1951.

Starring on The Lawrence Welk Show

Bill Page was a big star on The Lawrence Welk Show. He was known for being able to play many different woodwind instruments. Newspapers from the 1950s said he could play a lot of them.

Some of the instruments he played included six different saxophones and four different clarinets. He also played the flute, piccolo, oboe, English horn, and bassoon. Bill Page often performed numbers where he switched between several instruments. The Welk orchestra would play along with him.

On a show in October 1957, Lawrence Welk proudly announced that Bill Page could play "sixteen" instruments. Bill then showed off his amazing talent. He played the song "Am I In Love?" using eleven different instruments!

After The Lawrence Welk Show

Bill Page left the Lawrence Welk Show in 1965. After that, he continued to perform with many famous artists. He played with Barry Manilow, Ted Mack, Frank Gorshin, and Judy Garland. He also appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

Bill Page's Family

Bill Page eventually made his home in Studio City, California. He was the father of two children. His son, Scott Page, is also a musician and businessman. Scott has played with famous bands like Pink Floyd, Supertramp, and Toto. He also hosts a radio show called Business Rockstars. Bill's daughter, Tanya Page, is an executive at Sony.

Bill Page passed away on April 26, 2017. He was 91 years old.
