Blaye (Occitan: Blaia) is a commune in the Gironde department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in southwestern France. It is one of the five sub-prefectures of the department.

Geography
Blaye is on the right bank of the Gironde estuary (which is some 3 km (1.9 mi) wide at this point), 56 km (35 mi) to the southeast of Bordeaux.
The commune has an area of 6.4 km2 (2.5 sq mi), and its average altitude is 21 m (69 ft); at the city hall, the altitude is 8 m (26 ft).
