History of Bovill

Bovill got its name from an early settler named Hugh Bovill. He was from England and bought land in 1901 to start a ranch. Many loggers, new settlers, and people who loved sports came to the area.
Because of this, Hugh and his wife Charlotte opened a hotel in 1903. Later, in 1907, they added a store and a post office to their business. The railroad also arrived that year.
As logging grew, the town became very busy. Hugh and Charlotte Bovill, with their two daughters, decided to move away in 1911. They went to Coeur d'Alene.
In 1912, workers from the Potlatch Lumber Company near Bovill went on strike. They wanted better food and a small pay raise. News of their strike was shared in a newspaper called Industrial Worker.
The Bovill Opera House is a special building in town. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. This means it is an important historical site.
