Brookfield is a small town in Madison County, New York, United States. It's located in the southeastern part of Madison County. In 2020, about 2,247 people lived there. A fun fact about Brookfield is that it hosts the county's agricultural fair every year!

History of Brookfield
Brookfield was first settled around 1791. It officially became a town in 1795. At that time, it was created from a part of the town of Paris. Later, in 1805, a section of Brookfield was used to form the new town of Columbus. All these changes happened while Brookfield was still part of Chenango County.
Geography and Nature
Brookfield is located in the very southeastern corner of Madison County. Its northern border touches Oneida County. The southern border is with Chenango County, and the eastern border is with Otsego County.
Roads and Rivers
Two important roads pass through Brookfield. New York State Route 8 runs along the eastern side of the town. It goes north to Bridgewater and south to New Berlin. New York State Route 12 crosses the northwestern part of Brookfield. This road leads north to Waterville and southwest to Sherburne.
The town covers about 78 square miles (202 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small amount of water. The Unadilla River forms the eastern edge of Brookfield. Many smaller streams flow into the Unadilla River, including Beaver Creek. Beaver Creek flows south through the areas of Brookfield and South Brookfield. Other parts of the town are drained by the Sangerfield River and Handsome Brook, which both flow into the Chenango River.

Brookfield has one school called Brookfield Central School. It teaches students from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. The school's mascot is the beaver. In the 1982-1983 school year, the Brookfield Central School boys' varsity basketball team won the Section III tournament. They then went on to win the New York State Championship in their division (Class D)!
