Bryce Young (born July 25, 2001) is an American professional football player. He is a quarterback for the Carolina Panthers in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
While at Alabama, Bryce set a school record for most passing yards in a single game. In 2021, he won several top awards, including the famous Heisman Trophy. The Carolina Panthers chose Bryce Young as the very first player picked in the 2023 NFL draft.

Bryce Young's Early Life
Bryce Young was born on July 25, 2001, in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. He later moved to Pasadena, California, where he grew up. Bryce went to Cathedral High School in Los Angeles. In 2018, he moved to Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California.
High School Football Star
In his final year of high school, Bryce was a huge success. The Los Angeles Times named him their Player of the Year. He also won California's Gatorade Football Player of the Year award. That year, he threw for 4,528 yards and scored 58 touchdowns.
USA Today also named him their High School Offensive Player of the Year. During his whole high school career, Bryce threw for 13,520 yards and 152 touchdowns. He was considered the best quarterback prospect in the country. Even though he first planned to play for USC, Bryce decided to play for Alabama instead.
Bryce Young has been friends with Houston Texans quarterback C. J. Stroud for a long time. They went to high schools near each other in California. Their friendship continued in college. In 2023, they were the first two players chosen in the NFL Draft.
Bryce Young's College Career
Freshman Year at Alabama (2020)
During his first year at Alabama, Bryce Young was the backup quarterback. He played behind Mac Jones for the 2020 season. Bryce played his first college game on September 26, 2020, against Missouri.
He completed 5 out of 8 passes for 54 yards in that game. On November 21, he threw his first college touchdown pass against Kentucky. In 2020, Bryce played in nine games. He finished the season with 156 passing yards and one touchdown.
Sophomore Year Success (2021)
On September 4, 2021, Bryce Young became the starting quarterback for Alabama. In his first game as a starter, he led his team to a 44–13 win. They played against the #14 Miami Hurricanes. Bryce threw for 344 yards and four touchdowns in that game.
On November 20, Bryce played against Arkansas. He threw for an amazing 559 yards. This broke the Alabama school record for most passing yards in a single game. The old record was held by Scott Hunter.
After the 2021 season, Bryce Young won the famous Heisman Trophy. He was the first Alabama quarterback to ever win this award. Besides the Heisman, Bryce also won many other awards. These included AP Player of the Year and SEC Offensive Player of the Year. He was also named an All-American.
Overall, in 2021, Bryce threw for 4,872 yards and 47 touchdowns. He also had seven interceptions. He led the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in both passing yards and touchdowns.
Junior Year and NFL Draft (2022)
Bryce started his junior season strong in 2022. He threw for 195 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran for 100 yards and one touchdown. This helped Alabama win 55–0 against Utah State.
In his junior year, Bryce led Alabama to an 11–2 record. They won the 2022 Sugar Bowl against #14 Kansas State. Bryce finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting that year. He passed for 3,328 yards and 32 touchdowns.
On January 2, 2023, Bryce Young announced he would leave college early. He decided to enter the 2023 NFL Draft.

Rookie Season (2023)
The Carolina Panthers chose Bryce Young as the very first player in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Panthers traded with the Chicago Bears to get this top pick. Bryce signed a four-year contract worth $37.9 million on July 21, 2023.
On September 10, 2023, Bryce played his first NFL game. He threw his first touchdown pass to Hayden Hurst. On October 29, Bryce got his first NFL win. His team beat the Houston Texans 15–13. He threw for 235 yards and one touchdown in that game.
On December 17, Bryce led a 95-yard drive to win a game against the Falcons 9–7. This win ended a six-game losing streak for the Panthers. The next week, he had his best game yet. He threw for 312 yards and two touchdowns against the Green Bay Packers.
Bryce finished his first season with 2,877 passing yards. He threw 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The Panthers ended the season with a 2–15 record.
Second Season (2024)

After the second week of the 2024 season, Bryce was benched. He was replaced by veteran player Andy Dalton. This happened after the Panthers lost their first two games by a lot of points.
Bryce became the starter again before Week 8. This was because Andy Dalton hurt his thumb. In his return game, Bryce threw his first touchdown of the season. He finished the game with 224 yards and two touchdowns.
After losing to the Broncos, Bryce led the Panthers to two wins in a row. This was the first time the Panthers won consecutive games since 2022. He continued to lead the team through close games.
In Week 16, Bryce had three touchdowns. He led the Panthers to a 36–30 overtime win against the Arizona Cardinals. In the final week of the season, Bryce had his best game ever. He threw three touchdowns and ran for two more. The Panthers won 44–38 in overtime.
After returning to the starting lineup, Bryce led the Panthers to a 4–6 record. This was a big improvement from their earlier 2–16 record. The head coach confirmed that Bryce would be the team's starting quarterback for the 2025 season.
