Buell Peak is a mountain peak that stands 5,756 feet (1,754 meters) tall. You can find it inside Mount Rainier National Park in Washington state. It's part of the huge Cascade Range of mountains.

Buell Peak is located about 1.5 miles southwest of Cayuse Pass. It's also very close to another peak called Barrier Peak. Hikers often reach Buell Peak by using the Owyhigh Lakes Trail. The peak is named after John Latimore Buell. He moved to Orting, Washington in 1890 and started a hardware business.

Weather at Buell Peak

Buell Peak is in a special climate zone called the marine west coast. This means it gets a lot of weather from the Pacific Ocean. Most storms travel from the ocean towards the Cascade Mountains.

When these storms hit the tall mountains, the air is forced to rise. As the air goes up, it cools down and drops its moisture. This causes a lot of rain or snow to fall on the Cascades. Because of this, the western side of the mountains gets a lot of precipitation, especially snow in winter.

During winter, the weather is usually cloudy. But in the summer, high pressure systems over the Pacific Ocean often bring clear skies. The snow in this area tends to be wet and heavy. This can sometimes lead to a risk of avalanches. All the rain and melted snow from Buell Peak eventually flows into the Cowlitz River.
