Campello was once a small town, or municipality, in the Leventina area of Ticino, a canton (like a state) in Switzerland. On April 1, 2012, Campello joined with several other towns, including Anzonico, Calpiogna, and Cavagnago, to become part of the larger municipality of Faido.

History of Campello

Campello was first mentioned way back in the year 1400. It's believed that the village grew from an older settlement called Fontanedo, which was completely abandoned by the mid-1700s.

For a long time, Campello was part of a group of villages called the Degagna of Fichengo. This was a local administrative area. In 1853, Campello became its own independent municipality.

During the Middle Ages, Campello was an important center for the nearby parish of Mairengo. A parish is a church district. In 1837, Campello got its own independent parish. The main church, called S. Margherita, was built in 1632.

In the 1900s, some people from Campello moved to other countries, especially France (like the city of Lyon) and England.

A famous village called Carì is also in the Campello area. It's high up in the mountains, at about 1,622 meters (5,322 feet) above sea level. Carì used to be a Maiensäss, which is a place where people would take their animals to graze in the summer. Since the 1950s, Carì has become a popular mountain resort for tourists. It's now lived in all year round, making it the highest place in Ticino where people live permanently!
