Carcharhinus is a group of sharks that belong to the requiem shark family. This family includes many well-known sharks. Carcharhinus is one of 12 main groups, or genera, within this family.

These sharks have some common features. They all have round eyes. Their pectoral fins, which are like their front "arms," are located completely behind their five gill slits. Most Carcharhinus sharks are viviparous. This means their babies grow inside the mother and are born fully developed, just like human babies.
