A Look Back: Carramar's History
The name Carramar comes from an Aboriginal word. It means "shade of trees." The first official land grant in this area was made in 1803. This was done by Governor King.
One of Sydney's oldest trees is the Bland Oak. It was planted in Carramar in the 1830s. A person named William Bland planted it.
When the railway station opened in 1924, it was called South Fairfield. But the area had been known as Carramar since the 1850s. So, the station's name was changed to Carramar in 1926. A post office opened the next year. This happened as more people started living in the area.

Improving the Area: Community Efforts
Local residents have sometimes called Carramar "the forgotten suburb." This was because of things like damaged footpaths and not enough street lights. Also, the train station did not have easy access for people with disabilities.
To make the suburb better, the Fairfield City Council made plans in 2018. They planned to build a new park. This park would be between Carramar and Villawood. It would be a large park, about 3,200 square metres.
