The Story of Cartoonito
How Boomerang Became Cartoonito
The channel started on June 5, 2005, as Boomerang EMEA. It began showing classic cartoons. Over time, it started adding newer shows too. On August 1, 2007, the channel grew to include more countries. By the end of 2010, it was available in many parts of Central and Eastern Europe.
On October 12, 2011, the channel split into two different versions. One version focused on Central and Eastern Europe. The other, called Boomerang HQ, covered places like the Netherlands and parts of Africa. The European version had four language options: English, Romanian, Hungarian, and Polish.
From November 2014 to February 2015, the Central and Eastern European Boomerang replaced Boomerang HQ in the Netherlands and Belgium. It even had a special Dutch language version for a while. Since 2017, the main European version has been available in these countries.
On April 4, 2018, Boomerang CEE changed its screen format. It switched to a wider screen, known as 16:9. On October 1, 2018, it took over from Boomerang Germany. This meant it started showing German commercials. Sometimes, there were small mistakes and Russian rating icons appeared.
Since November 10, 2020, Boomerang got a special license from the Czech Republic. This was to make sure it could keep broadcasting legally in the European Union. This happened after the United Kingdom left the European Union. The channel's main office is still in London.
On November 1, 2021, Boomerang CEE added a new Bulgarian language option. It also started showing Bulgarian TV commercials. On December 3, 2021, a Czech language option was added too.
Due to recent events, on March 9, 2022, the channel stopped broadcasting in Russia. This also happened to Cartoon Network in Russia.
The Channel Becomes Cartoonito
Cartoonito first started as a special block of shows in 2011. This block was for preschoolers. It aired on weekday mornings and afternoons. By 2014, all Cartoonito shows moved into Boomerang's regular schedule.
On August 8, 2022, it was announced that Cartoonito would return to Boomerang CEE. This was part of a bigger plan to update the brand. The Cartoonito block officially came back on September 1, 2022. It aired from 8 AM to 2 PM.
Then, on January 4, 2023, big news came out. Boomerang CEE would completely change its name to Cartoonito. This change happened on March 18, 2023.
After these changes, the channel stopped airing in Latvia. It was replaced by the Scandinavian version of Boomerang. This happened officially on May 1, 2023. However, the channel had not been used by any TV providers in Latvia for a few years.
