The Story of Casper Meets Wendy
Ghosts and Witches on Vacation
The movie starts with The Ghostly Trio—Stretch, Stinkie, and Fatso—causing a stir at a baseball game. Their nephew, Casper, tries to calm everyone down. But people are scared of him too! The stadium quickly empties. Casper's uncles decide they need a vacation.
Meanwhile, a powerful warlock named Desmond Spellman (George Hamilton) thinks he's the best. But a magical mirror tells him that Wendy the Good Little Witch (Hilary Duff) will become even greater. Desmond decides he must get rid of Wendy. He plans to throw her into the "Mystic Abyss," a magical place that destroys living things.
Desmond sends two spies, Jules and Vincent (Richard Moll and Vincent Schiavelli), to find Wendy. Wendy lives in the countryside with her three playful aunts: Gert, Gabby, and Fanny (Cathy Moriarty, Shelley Duvall and Teri Garr). Wendy and her aunts manage to escape the spies. To stay safe, they hide at a resort hotel. Guess what? Casper and his uncles are vacationing at the same hotel!
A Friendship Begins
Casper and Wendy meet in a barn. They quickly become good friends. Both of them feel bossed around by their older relatives. They worry their guardians won't get along because ghosts and witches are usually enemies. But Casper and Wendy believe if their families just met, they would see how much they have in common.
They come up with a clever plan. Casper tricks his uncles into trying to break a record for possessing people. This way, Casper can learn how to do it too. The Ghostly Trio then possess three men at a party. At the same time, Wendy convinces her aunts to go to the party to meet some new people.
Thanks to Casper and Wendy's plan, the ghosts and witches meet. They start flirting and enjoying each other's company. They find out they have a lot in common, not knowing who the others really are.
Trouble and Teamwork
Things go well until the ghosts' possession wears off. The Ghostly Trio's real selves are revealed to Wendy's aunts. In turn, the aunts show their true witch forms and threaten the ghosts with magic. Wendy explains to Casper that she and her aunts cannot use strong magic. If they do, Desmond will be able to find them. She begs Casper not to tell anyone.
Unfortunately, the Ghostly Trio suspects Casper is hiding something. They pressure him until he accidentally reveals that the witches can't use their full powers. The Trio then starts to scare Wendy and her aunts. Feeling she has no choice, Wendy casts a powerful spell to cover the Trio in plaster. This strong magic alerts Desmond's tracker to her location.
Wendy is upset that Casper broke his promise and ends their friendship. Casper confronts his uncles. He tells them Desmond is coming for the witches and they need to help. At first, the Trio refuses. But Casper reminds them that at the party, they showed they could get along with the witches.
Saving the Day
Before the witches can leave the resort, Desmond and his spies arrive. Desmond finds the witches and explains the Oracle's prediction. Wendy tries to fight back, but Desmond summons the Mystic Abyss. He throws Wendy into it to destroy her. Casper bravely dives in to save her.
Wendy's aunts try to fight Desmond, but he is too strong. Before Desmond can turn the witches into fertilizer, a giant three-eyed monster appears! It frightens the warlock. He trips over Wendy's broom and falls into the Abyss himself. The monster turns out to be the Ghostly Trio! They had a change of heart and combined their powers to defeat Desmond. While they hold the Abyss open, Wendy's aunts pull her and Casper out.
Both Casper and Wendy are weak from being inside the Abyss. But with encouragement from their guardians, they recover. Casper is restored by his uncles, and Wendy is treated by her aunts. The witches have a touching reunion. The ghosts have an awkward one! The witches thank the Trio for their help. The Oracle then announces that Wendy is the greatest witch. Why? Because she did something no other witch ever could: she befriended a ghost!
At the end, Casper, his uncles, Wendy, and her aunts say goodbye. Before flying home, Wendy gives Casper a goodbye kiss, making him blush.
