Cool Facts About the Amphitheatre

The amphitheatre is located about 4 miles south of downtown Atlanta. It is part of the Lakewood Fairgrounds. Many famous bands and artists have played here. Some, like the band Phish, have even said it's one of their favorite places to perform. They love the great sound quality, which is often hard to find in outdoor venues with roofs.

The band Linkin Park used parts of their shows from this venue on their special fan CDs. For example, they used a performance of "One Step Closer" from their 2004 tour. They also used "The Little Things Give You Away" from their 2007 tour.

In 2008, another big outdoor venue, the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park, opened in Alpharetta, Georgia. This meant that the Atlanta area had more great places for outdoor concerts. Other popular venues include Chastain Park Amphitheater and the Frederick Brown Jr Amphitheater.

How the Name Changed Over Time

When the amphitheatre first opened in 1989, it was simply called Lakewood Amphitheatre. Over the years, its name changed several times because of different sponsors.

  • In 2000, it briefly went back to its original name, Lakewood Amphitheatre.
  • From 2001 to 2007, it was called HiFi Buys Amphitheatre.
  • In 2008, it changed back to Lakewood Amphitheatre again.
  • From 2009 to 2015, it was known as Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood. This was because Aaron's, a company, sponsored the venue's name.
  • In 2016, it returned to being the Lakewood Amphitheatre.
  • Since November 2017, it has been known as the Cellairis Amphitheatre at Lakewood, thanks to a new sponsor.
