Central Point is a city in Oregon, located in Jackson County. In 2020, about 18,997 people lived there. It's right next to Medford and is part of the larger Medford area. Central Point is famous for hosting the annual Jackson County Fair every July!

History of Central Point

Central Point got its name from a pioneer named Isaac Constant. He settled here in 1852. He called it "Central Point" because it was a key crossroads. This spot was in the middle of the Rogue Valley.

It was where the main road from the north met the road between Jacksonville and other towns along the Rogue River. Around 1870, the Magruder Brothers opened a store. A post office was set up in 1872, officially naming the area Central Point.

Geography and Location

Central Point is a city that covers about 3.90 square miles (10.1 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the city limits.

Where is Central Point?

The city is about 1,272 feet (388 meters) above sea level. It sits along Oregon Highway 99 and Interstate 5. These are major roads northwest of Medford. Jacksonville is to the south, and Gold Hill is to the northwest. The Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad also runs through the city.

Griffin Creek flows into Bear Creek right in Central Point. Bear Creek is a larger stream in the area. The Bear Creek Greenway is a popular biking and hiking trail. It connects several cities like Ashland, Talent, Phoenix, and Medford. This trail also goes through Central Point, following Bear Creek.
