Charlotte is a small town in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. It's located in the middle of the county, between the cities of Jamestown and Dunkirk. In 2020, about 1,521 people lived here.

Charlotte's History: How the Town Began
The area where Charlotte is now was first settled around 1809. The town of Charlotte was officially created in 1829. It was formed by dividing a larger town called Gerry. By the year 1900, Charlotte had a population of 1,406 people.
A Notable Event: The 1995 Tire Fire
In April 1995, a large fire happened at a tire disposal site in Charlotte. This site was located near Route 60, just outside the village of Sinclairville. The fire burned for several months, finally ending in July 1995. Because of the smoke and other concerns, some local residents had to leave their homes for a short time, and a nearby school was temporarily closed.

Charlotte covers a total area of about 94.4 square kilometers (or 36.4 square miles). All of this area is land, meaning there are no large lakes or rivers within the town's borders.

Communities and Locations in Charlotte
Charlotte is made up of several smaller communities and interesting spots:
- Arab Hill – This is a high point near the eastern border of the town. It's one of the highest places in all of Chautauqua County, reaching about 2,100 feet (640 meters) high.
- Charlotte Center – This is a small community, or hamlet, located northeast of Sinclairville. You can find it on County Road 77.
- Charlotte Center Gap Filler Annex – This used to be a military site and is now a place for commercial radio transmitters. It's located at the very top of Arab Hill.
- Moons – Another small community near the western edge of the town, located right on Route 60.
- Pettit Corners – This spot is northwest of Sinclairville and west of Charlotte Center, along Hooker Road.
- Pickett Corners (Pickett School) – This hamlet is in the northwest corner of Charlotte, on County Road 75. It's important because it was the very first place settled in the town.
- Sinclairville – A part of the village of Sinclairville extends into the southwest corner of Charlotte. It's where county roads 64, 66, and 77 meet.
