Stockton is a small town located in Chautauqua County, New York, in the United States. In 2020, about 2,036 people lived there.
The town is named after Richard Stockton. He was an important person who signed the Declaration of Independence.

History of Stockton
The first settlers came to the Stockton area around 1810. The town of Stockton was officially created in 1821. It was formed from a part of the nearby town of Chautauqua.
In 1850, Stockton grew bigger. More land was added to it from the town of Ellery.
Geography and Location
Stockton covers a total area of about 47.6 square miles (123.4 km2). Most of this area, about 47.1 square miles (122.1 km2), is land. The remaining part, about 0.50 square miles (1.3 km2), is water.
New York State Route 60 is a main road that runs north and south through the eastern side of the town.

Communities and Places in Stockton
Stockton has several smaller communities and interesting places:
- Bear Lake Outlet – This is a stream that flows south through the town.
- Burnhams – A small community (hamlet) located west of Cassadaga village. It was added to Cassadaga village in the 1920s.
- Cassadaga – This is a village in the northeast part of the town. It is located near NY Route 60 and the southern end of Cassadaga Lake.
- Cassadaga Creek – A stream that starts from Cassadaga Lake. It flows out of the southeast part of the town. This creek eventually joins bigger rivers like the Allegheny River and the Mississippi.
- Cassadaga Lakes – A lake system partly located in the northeast of the town.
- Centralia – A hamlet found near the southern border of the town.
- Coes Corners – A place in the western part of the town.
- Dentons Corners – A location in the southwest part of the town.
- Kabob – A hamlet near the eastern town line.
- Kelly Corners – A hamlet in the western part of the town.
- Moons or Moons Station – A hamlet on the eastern town border. It was named after D.C. Moon, who helped with the railroad in the area.
- Pleasantville – A hamlet in the southwest corner of the town.
- South Stockton – A hamlet in the southeast corner of the town.
- Stockton - This is the main hamlet of Stockton itself. It was once known as Delanti.
- Stockton State Forest – A New York State Forest located within the town.
Fire and Emergency Services
The town of Stockton has two volunteer fire departments that help in emergencies:
- The Stockton Volunteer Fire Company
- The Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department
These departments provide important services like fighting fires and responding to medical emergencies. The Cassadaga VFD mostly covers the village of Cassadaga and parts of Arkwright. The Stockton Volunteer Fire Company covers the rest of the town.
