Chermignon was a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It was located in the Valais region, within the Sierre district. On January 1, 2017, Chermignon joined with three other towns – Mollens, Montana, and Randogne – to create a new, larger municipality known as Crans-Montana.

A Look Back in Time
Chermignon is first mentioned in old records from 1228. Back then, it was called Chermenon or Chirminon. It became its own independent town in 1905. Before that, it was part of a larger area called Lens.
Where Chermignon Was Located
Chermignon covered an area of about 5.4 square kilometers (2.1 square miles). A big part of this land, about 38.8%, was used for farming. Forests covered another 30.5% of the area. Buildings and roads took up about 28.6% of the land.
The town was located in the Sierre district, on the right side of the Rhone river. It included a few different areas:
- Chermignon d'en Haut: This village was higher up, at about 1,168 meters (3,832 feet).
- Chermignon d'en Bas: This village was a bit lower, at about 927 meters (3,041 feet).
- Champzabé and Ollon: These were smaller communities, called hamlets, located at the bottom of the slope.
- A part of the popular resort Crans-sur-Sierre: This area was even higher, at about 1,460 meters (4,790 feet).
The Town's Symbol: Its Coat of Arms
The official symbol, or coat of arms, of Chermignon showed a special picture. It featured Saint George, a famous figure, riding a horse. He was shown fighting a green dragon-like creature with a red spear. This image was set against a blue background.
Who Lived in Chermignon?
In 2015, Chermignon had a population of 2,272 people. Over the ten years from 2000 to 2010, the number of people living there grew by about 6.3%. This growth was mostly because new people moved into the town.
Languages Spoken
Most people in Chermignon spoke French as their main language. In 2000, about 83.4% of the population spoke French. The next most common languages were Italian (4.7%) and Serbo-Croatian (3.2%). A smaller number of people also spoke German.

Chermignon's population has grown quite a lot over the years. For example, in 1850, there were 522 people. By 1950, it had grown to 1,330 people. In 2000, the population reached 2,711.

Other religions included the Swiss Reformed Church (4.9%) and Orthodox Christian churches (5.24%). A small number of people also followed Islam or Judaism. About 4.61% of the population did not belong to any church.
Learning and Education
Many people in Chermignon had a good education. In 2000, about 33.1% of the population had finished high school (upper secondary education). Also, 14.1% had gone on to higher education, like a university or a specialized college.
