Cherokee County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 11,658. The county seat is Cherokee. The county was formed on January 15, 1851, from open territory. It was named after the Cherokee people.

2020 census
The 2020 census recorded a population of 11,658 in the county, with a population density of 20.2645/sq mi (7.8242/km2). 96.59% of the population reported being of one race. 88.36% were non-Hispanic White, 0.75% were Black, 4.55% were Hispanic, 0.28% were Native American, 0.49% were Asian, 0.12% were Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander and 5.46% were some other race or more than one race. There were 5,558 housing units of which 5,008 were occupied.
