Even though most of their shops are in Maharashtra, their tasty products are sent all over India! Chitale Bandhu is super famous for its namkeen (savory snacks), especially bakarwadi. They also make a huge variety of sweets. They even send their snacks to other countries like the United States, Singapore, and Israel.

How Chitale Bandhu Started

From Milk to Snacks

The story of Chitale Bandhu began in the 1930s. Bhaskar Ganesh Chitale, known as B.G. Chitale, was a milk businessman. He lived in a small village called Limbgaon in Maharashtra.

Sadly, his cattle got sick and died. This caused a big loss for the Chitale family. In 1939, B.G. Chitale started a new business called Chitale Dairy. This was the beginning of the Chitale Group of industries.

His son, Raghunath Rao Chitale (Bhau Chitale), helped the business grow. He opened a shop in Mumbai in partnership. But in 1946, that partnership ended.

Raghunath Rao Chitale then moved to Pune. There, he and his brother Narsinha started selling milk. The milk came from Bhilawadi. Their milk business became very successful in Pune.

In 1950, they bought a shop. It was 500 square feet. In this shop, they started their new company, Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale. This original shop is still open today! It is now the main office for Chitale Bandhu.

The Rise of Bakarwadi

Chitale Bandhu started selling bakarwadi in 1970. This snack became incredibly popular. Because so many people wanted bakarwadi, the company started using machines. These machines helped make sure every bakarwadi had the same perfect shape and size.

In the early 1990s, they sold about 300 kilograms of bakarwadi every day. Today, they sell about 3,000 kilograms daily! The bakarwadi really helped Chitale Bandhu's sales grow a lot.

To meet this huge demand, Narsinha (Rajabhau) Chitale visited Japan in the 1970s. He learned about new technology there. In 1989, Chitale Bandhu started making bakarwadi using semi-automatic machines. Later, they made the process fully automatic. Over the years, Chitale Bandhu opened many more shops around Pune.

Bakarwadi, a Special Snack

Bakarwadi has been a part of traditional West Indian cooking for a long time. But many people believe that Bhausaheb Chitale helped make it super popular across India and even abroad. After bakarwadi was added to the menu, Chitale Bandhu's sales grew very quickly.
