Clinker Peak is a cool mountain peak found in Garibaldi Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada. It's part of a larger mountain called Mount Price. Clinker Peak is special because it's a type of volcano known as a stratovolcano. It's also considered a "volcanic vent," which means it's an opening where lava and ash can come out.

Clinker Peak is part of the Garibaldi Volcanic Belt. This is a chain of volcanoes in southwestern British Columbia. It's also part of the Canadian Cascade Arc, which is a larger group of volcanoes.

What is a Stratovolcano?

A stratovolcano is a tall, cone-shaped volcano. It's built up over time by many layers of hardened lava, ash, and rocks. Think of it like a giant layered cake made of volcanic material.

Clinker Peak is located on the side of Mount Price. It's part of a ridge called Clinker Ridge. This ridge is on the west side of Garibaldi Lake.

How Clinker Peak Shaped the Landscape

About 9,000 years ago, Clinker Peak was very active. It had two big lava flows. These flows moved across the land. They stopped when they hit a giant sheet of ice that was melting.

When the lava cooled against the ice, it formed a natural dam. This dam is known as The Barrier. The Barrier is super important because it holds back the water of Garibaldi Lake. Without The Barrier, Garibaldi Lake wouldn't be there!

Where is Clinker Peak?

Clinker Peak is in a beautiful, wild area. It's about 9.5 kilometers (about 6 miles) from an old, abandoned town called Garibaldi.

The closest towns with people living in them are:

  • Squamish: This town is about 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) south of Clinker Peak.
  • Whistler: This famous ski town is about 23 kilometers (14 miles) north of Clinker Peak.
