Conshohocken (say it: KON-shə-HOK-ən) is a borough located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. It sits right on the Schuylkill River, which is near Philadelphia.

This town was once a big center for factories and industries. Today, it has changed a lot. It's now a busy area with many businesses and homes along the river. People sometimes call it "Conshy" (say it: KON-shee) for short!

On the other side of the Schuylkill River, you'll find its sister community, West Conshohocken.

What's in a Name? The Meaning of Conshohocken

The name "Conshohocken" comes from the Unami language, which was spoken by the Lenape people. It might mean "pleasant valley."

Another idea is that it means "Big-trough-ground-place" or "Large-bowl-ground-place." This name likely refers to the big curve the Schuylkill River makes in this area.
