Corning started in 1882 when the railroad arrived. The community was named after John Corning, a railroad official.

Corning Olive Festival
The annual Corning Olive Festival is held every year. It takes place on the second Saturday in October. It is the longest-running olive festival in the United States. The local Catholic church started the festival in 1946 to raise money. Now, the Corning Chamber of Commerce organizes it.
Transportation
Corning is served by Interstate 5 and Highway 99. The California Northern Railroad also runs through Corning. This railroad has been operating a line between Davis and Tehama since 1993. The line is 110.7 miles (178.2 km) long.
