Courchavon is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It's located in the Jura canton, which is like a state, and is part of the Porrentruy district. It's home to about 291 people.

History of Courchavon

Courchavon was first mentioned in old records way back in 1279. Its name then was Corchavon.

Geography of Courchavon

Courchavon covers an area of about 6.23 square kilometers (2.4 square miles). A big part of the land, about 30% (or 1.88 square kilometers), is used for farming. Even more, about 60% (or 3.74 square kilometers), is covered by forests.

About 7.6% of the land is used for buildings and roads. A small part, 1% (or 0.06 square kilometers), is rivers or lakes. The rest, 1.6%, is land that can't be used for farming or building.

Most of the forests are dense, covering 59.1% of the total land. About 12.8% of the farmland is used for growing crops. Another 16.6% is used for pastures where animals graze. All the water in Courchavon is from flowing rivers.

The town is located in the Porrentruy district. It sits on the left bank of the Allaine river. Courchavon includes the main village and a smaller settlement called Mormont.

The blazon (official description) of Courchavon's coat of arms is quite specific. It shows a gold six-pointed star at the top. Below that, it has a gold "saltire," which is an X-shaped cross. All of this is set on a blue background.

Education in Courchavon

Transportation in Courchavon

Courchavon has its own railway station, called Courchavon. This station is on the Delémont–Delle line. You can catch regular trains from here to Biel/Bienne in Switzerland and to Meroux in France.
