Croglio was once a small town, or municipality, located in the Lugano area of Ticino, a canton in Switzerland. On April 18, 2021, Croglio joined with three other towns – Monteggio, Ponte Tresa, and Sessa – to create a new, larger municipality called Tresa.

A Look Back in Time
Croglio was first mentioned in old records in the year 1335. Back then, it was known as burgus de Crolio. This means it was already a recognized settlement many centuries ago.
Where Croglio Is Located
Croglio is located in the middle of the Malcantone valley, which is part of the Lugano district. The area of Croglio was about 4.38 square kilometers (1.69 sq mi) in 1997.
- A big part of this land, about 70.5%, is covered by forests.
- About 20.3% of the land is used for farming.
- The remaining 14.4% is where buildings and roads are found.
- A small amount, 0.5%, is made up of rivers or lakes.
The former municipality included several smaller settlements. These are Croglio, Castelrotto, Ronco, Madonna del Piano, Barico, Purasca, and Biogno-Beride. Biogno and Beride used to be two separate towns. They merged in 1907 and then joined Croglio in 1976. From 1953 to 1976, Croglio was known as Croglio-Castelrotto.

A blazon is a special description of a coat of arms. Croglio's coat of arms has a silver background. On it, there is a red castle without a door. At the top, there is a green hazel branch with two golden hazelnuts.
People of Croglio
In 2019, Croglio had a population of 849 people. About 15.3% of the people living there in 2008 were foreign nationals. Over ten years, from 1997 to 2007, the population grew by about 4.9%.

Most people in Croglio speak Italian. In 2000, about 80.7% of the population spoke Italian. The second most common language was German, spoken by 14.1% of the people. A smaller number, 2.3%, spoke French.

Famous People from Croglio
- Helmut Horten (1909–1987 in Croglio) was a German businessman. He created and owned the fourth-largest chain of department stores in Germany, called Horten AG. He lived in Croglio starting in 1968.

The entire village of Castelrotto, which is part of Croglio, is a special place. It is listed as an Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites. This means it's an important historical and cultural area in Switzerland. You can also visit the beautiful church of San Bartolomeo.
