About CyHi the Prynce
Early Life and Music Beginnings
Cydel Charles Young was born on September 15, 1984. Growing up in Georgia, he was active in sports like football, basketball, and track. He also sang in school choirs and performed in plays. His parents were strict and did not let him listen to hip hop music when he was young. However, CyHi says their rules helped him build strong character.
In 2009, CyHi signed a music deal with Akon's Konvict Muzik label, which worked with Def Jam Recordings. He first got a lot of attention in 2010 when famous rapper Kanye West supported his music. CyHi shared that singer Beyoncé, who is friends with Kanye West, encouraged Kanye to sign him to his GOOD Music label. This led to CyHi being part of Kanye's "GOOD Fridays" music releases and appearing on Kanye's 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
CyHi released his second mixtape, Royal Flush II, in 2011. He then released his third mixtape, Jack of All Trades, later that year. This mixtape also announced the title of his first studio album, Hardway Musical.
Working on Cruel Summer and Other Projects
In 2012, CyHi was featured on the GOOD Music compilation album Cruel Summer, which came out on September 18. He appeared on two songs: "The Morning" and "Sin City".
On January 29, 2013, CyHi released his fifth mixtape, Ivy League: Kick Back. This mixtape included guest artists like 2 Chainz, B.o.B, and Childish Gambino. Even though he wasn't featured on Kanye West's Yeezus album, CyHi helped write almost all the songs on it. He continued to work on his own album, Hardway Musical.
New Album and Recent Work
By 2015, CyHi's album still didn't have a release date. He had also left Def Jam Recordings. He released a song called "Elephant in the Room" to express his feelings about the situation. Later, CyHi explained that the song was not meant to be a serious "diss" (an insult song). It was more like a playful challenge, similar to how Eminem would joke with Dr. Dre.
After this, a new album called L.I.O.N. was announced. It still showed the GOOD Music logo, meaning CyHi was still with the label and on good terms. This album was promoted with singles like "Movin' Around" featuring Schoolboy Q and "Dat Side" featuring Kanye West.
More recently, CyHi helped write songs for the ¥$ (Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign) album Vultures 1, released in February 2024. He wrote on the tracks "Keys to My Life" and "Vultures".
In February 2021, CyHi shared on Instagram that he was involved in a serious car incident. While driving on an Atlanta highway, his car was reportedly shot at, causing it to flip over and crash.
