Delafield is a city in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. It is located along the Bark River. In 2020, about 7,185 people lived there. Delafield is part of the larger Milwaukee metropolitan area.

It is important to know that the city of Delafield is a separate place from the Town of Delafield. Both are in the same general area.

History of Delafield

Delafield was founded in 1837. It was named after Dr. Charles Delafield from Milwaukee. This city was home to the famous Cushing brothers. They were important figures during the American Civil War.

  • Alonzo Cushing was a brave soldier. He died during a major battle called Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg.
  • William B. Cushing was a naval officer. He led a daring raid on a Confederate ship called the CSS Albemarle.
  • Howard B. Cushing was a soldier who fought against the Apache after the war. He was killed in Arizona.

There is a place called Cushing Memorial Park in Delafield. It has a special monument to honor these brothers. Cushing Elementary School is also named after Alonzo Cushing. Since 1927, Delafield has hosted a special community cooking event known as the "Coon Feed."
