The Division of Oxley is a special area in Queensland, Australia. People who live in this area vote for someone to represent them in the Australian government. This area is called an electoral division.
The Division of Oxley was created in 1949. It was named after a famous Australian explorer, John Oxley. This area covers parts of the south-western suburbs of Brisbane. It also includes some areas of the city of Ipswich. There was an earlier Division of Oxley from 1901 to 1934. But that one covered a different part of Brisbane.

Bill Hayden: A Leader for Australia
One of the most famous members for Oxley was Bill Hayden. He was a member of the Labor Party. Bill Hayden was the Opposition Leader for Australia from 1977 to 1983. This means he was the main leader of the party that was not in power.
Later, when the Labor Party won the election, Bill Hayden became a minister in the government. In 1988, he was chosen to be the Governor-General. This is a very important job. The Governor-General represents the King or Queen in Australia.
Pauline Hanson: Starting a New Party
In 1996, Pauline Hanson was chosen by the Liberal Party to run for the seat of Oxley. However, the Liberal Party later decided not to support her. This was because she had different ideas about some important issues, like migration and Aboriginal matters.
Even without the Liberal Party's full support, Pauline Hanson was elected. She sat in the House of Representatives as an independent member. Later, she started her own political party called One Nation. After some changes to the electoral boundaries in 1997, Pauline Hanson tried to win a different seat, the Division of Blair, in the 1998 election, but she was not successful.
The current representative for Oxley is Bernie Ripoll. He is a member of the Labor Party.
