East Mountain is a mountain located in Essex County, Vermont. It is part of a region known as the "Northeast Kingdom". To its north, you can find Seneca Mountain.

East Mountain is an important part of the watershed for the Connecticut River. This large river eventually flows into Long Island Sound in Connecticut. Water from different sides of East Mountain flows into smaller streams. These streams then join larger ones, like Paul Stream or the Moose River, before reaching the Connecticut River.

East Mountain's Military Past

East Mountain was once home to a USAF base. This base was called the North Concord Air Force Station. It was a special facility with radar equipment used by the US military.

A Look at the Base

The North Concord Air Force Station was built in 1955. Its main job was to track objects in the sky using radar. In 1962, the base's name was changed to Lyndonville Air Force Station. However, it was only open for a short time, closing down in 1963.

Reported UFO Sighting

An interesting event happened at the North Concord Air Force Station in 1961. The military base reported seeing an unidentified flying object (UFO). This sighting lasted for 18 minutes. It happened just a few hours before a well-known event involving a couple named Barney and Betty Hill, who reported an unusual encounter.
