El Lago is a small city located in Harris County, Texas, United States. In 2020, about 3,090 people lived there.
This city has a special history. It is built on a spot that was once a main hiding place for Jean Lafitte. He was a famous French pirate and privateer (a private ship owner allowed to attack enemy ships).

History of El Lago: The Astronaut City
El Lago was officially started in 1961. Over the years, it became a popular home for many astronauts. More than 47 astronauts have lived in El Lago!
Famous Astronauts Who Lived Here
Some very famous astronauts called El Lago home. These include:
- Neil Armstrong: He was the first person to ever walk on the Moon.
- Buzz Aldrin: He was the second person to walk on the Moon, right after Neil Armstrong, during the 1969 Apollo 11 mission.
- Jim Lovell: He was one of the first three humans to fly to the Moon on Apollo 8. He also commanded the Apollo 13 mission, which had a famous emergency.
- Story Musgrave: He flew on six different Space Shuttle missions.
- Peggy Whitson: In 2017, she became the first female astronaut to command the International Space Station.
Many houses in El Lago were specially built for these astronauts and their families. The city's logo even features a Space Shuttle, showing its connection to space exploration.

El Lago remembers its astronaut residents in several ways:
- The local elementary school is named for Ed White. He was the first American to walk in space.
