Elizabeth is a small town in Elbert County, Colorado, United States. It is the largest town in Elbert County. In 2020, about 1,675 people lived there. This was a 23% increase from 2010. Elizabeth is part of the larger Denver–Aurora–Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a big group of cities and towns. It's also part of the Front Range Urban Corridor, a long area where many people live in Colorado.

The History of Elizabeth
Elizabeth started as a place where people cut down trees to make wood. This kind of place is called a saw mill camp. The town was later named after a family member of John Evans. He was a governor of the area when it was still a territory.
Elizabeth has had its own post office since 1882. The town officially became a town on October 9, 1890. This means it was "incorporated" and could make its own local rules.

Elizabeth has its own weekly newspaper called the Meadowlark Herald. This is the only newspaper that is fully owned and published in Elbert County. Other newspapers like the Elbert County News and The Ranchland News also share news about the area.
A well-known author and comedian, Sam Tallent, grew up in Elizabeth.
Getting Around Elizabeth
Colorado State Highway 86 goes right through the town. If you go east on this highway for about 7 miles, you'll reach Kiowa. If you go west for about 15 miles, you'll get to Castle Rock.
The big city of Denver is about 40 miles northwest of Elizabeth. You can get there by going through Franktown and Parker. The town is located between two creeks, Gold Creek and Box Elder Creek. People in the area often call Box Elder Creek "Running Creek."
There is no public transportation system, like buses, in Elizabeth.
For air travel, there are some small, unmarked airstrips southeast of Elizabeth. However, these do not have commercial flights. The closest major airports are Denver International Airport and Colorado Springs Airport. Both are about the same distance from Elizabeth.
