Elsmere is a city in Kenton County, Kentucky, in the United States. It is known as a "home rule-class city," which means it has its own local government. In 2020, about 9,159 people lived there.

Where is Elsmere Located?
Elsmere is in the western part of Kenton County. It shares borders with other cities. To the north and east, it borders Erlanger. To the south, it borders Independence. To the west, it borders Florence, which is in Boone County.
The Dixie Highway is a major road that forms the northern edge of Elsmere. This highway includes U.S. Routes 25, 42, and 127. If you travel northeast on this highway, you'll reach Covington in about 7 miles (11 km). Going southwest for about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) will take you to the center of Florence.

A Look at Elsmere's History
The area where Elsmere is now was first settled in 1885. Back then, it was called "South Erlanger."
In 1896, the community officially became a city. It was renamed "Elsmere." The new name came from Elsmere Avenue in Norwood, Ohio. One of the city's founders was from Norwood, and he chose this name.
